Brainspotting
At Moriel Mental Health Center, we are committed to offering the most effective and compassionate methods of care. Brainspotting (BSP) is a cutting-edge therapeutic approach designed to unlock the brain’s natural ability to heal from trauma, stress, and deeply rooted emotional pain.
Discovered by Dr. David Grand in 2003, Brainspotting works by identifying “brainspots”—eye positions that correlate with unresolved experiences stored in the subcortical brain. By holding focused attention on these points, clients are able to process trauma at a level deeper than words, accessing the body’s innate healing mechanisms.
Brainspotting is especially powerful for individuals who have experienced:
Post-traumatic stress (PTSD)
Anxiety and panic
Depression
Grief and loss
Performance blocks (academic, artistic, athletic)
Our trained clinicians guide clients through this process in a safe and supportive environment, allowing difficult emotions to surface and resolve without being re-traumatized. Brainspotting helps create profound shifts, restoring calm, resilience, and hope.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
EMDR is a highly researched and evidence-based therapy recognized worldwide for its effectiveness in treating trauma and emotional distress. Developed by Dr. Francine Shapiro, EMDR uses guided bilateral stimulation—often through eye movements, taps, or sounds—to help the brain reprocess painful memories so they no longer carry the same emotional weight.
Instead of simply talking through trauma, EMDR works directly with how memories are stored in the nervous system. This allows clients to experience rapid relief and lasting healing. Research shows EMDR to be especially effective for:
PTSD and complex trauma
Anxiety disorders
Phobias and fears
Chronic stress
Negative self-beliefs rooted in past experiences
